About Cheboiganing Ridge
The Story Behind the Name
Designed with Purpose
Every home we have owned is given a name that reflects the history and character of the place it calls home. We believe a great destination should have a story, and each of our properties is thoughtfully named to honor the communities, landscapes, and traditions that make Northern Michigan so special.
Â
Long before it became known as Burt Lake, this area was called Cheboiganing, an Ojibwe name meaning "The Place of the Passage." For centuries, this remarkable landscape served as an important travel corridor connecting Lake Michigan and Lake Huron through what is now known as Michigan's Inland Waterway.

Perched high above Burt Lake, our home overlooks the very waters that inspired its name. The word Ridge reflects the property's elevated bluff-top setting, offering panoramic views of one of Northern Michigan's most treasured lakes.

Together, Cheboiganing Ridge honors both the history of this remarkable place and the breathtaking landscape that surrounds it.

Every detail of Cheboiganing Ridge was carefully considered to create a home that feels timeless, comfortable, and unmistakably Northern Michigan.

Inspired by classic lakeside lodges and modern mountain architecture, the home blends rich natural materials, warm gathering spaces, and expansive windows that frame the spectacular views of Burt Lake. Deep green siding, custom wine-colored accents, natural stone, and handcrafted details were chosen to complement the surrounding landscape rather than compete with it.

Inside, the home is designed around bringing people together. Spacious living areas, a chef-inspired kitchen, inviting outdoor spaces, and comfortable accommodations create the perfect setting for family vacations, holidays, and unforgettable weekends Up North.

More than just a vacation home, Cheboiganing Ridge is a place to slow down, reconnect, and create memories that will last for generations.

A Tradition of Storytelling
We believe every home should have a story

Bear Cabin celebrated the rustic beauty of Northern Michigan's Forests and waterways.

Crooked Landing honored the historic era when travelers would arrive by train before boarding steamers to their final destinations at area villages, lodges and camps on Michigan's Inland waterway. Perhaps to places like Cheboiganing Ridge!

Cheboiganing Ridge Continues that tradition by recongnizing the original name of Burt Lake - "The Place of the Passage" - and celebrating of the the Great Lakes region's most historic waterways.
